Mares celebrates 10 years’ involvement with the Cyclassics bike race
On 23 August, the Vattenfall Cyclassics bike race took place in Hamburg. Around 22,000 amateurs covered distances of 55, 100 and 155 kilometres, alongside the world’s 18 top cycling teams.
Our oldest cycling veterans, Michaela Müller, Claus Witt and André Mandix were completing the 100 kilometre route of Europe’s largest bike race for the 10th time. And this year, there were once again Mares newcomers on the route. Although a racing bike handles quite differently to a normal bike, everyone crossed the finish line without any injuries, thanks to intensive training.
The 600,000 spectators included some of our colleagues, who were able to follow the race using an app showing the cyclists’ exact locations.
Afterwards, the traditional after-race party was held in our inner courtyard. All our colleagues were cordially invited for cakes, salads and a barbeque buffet. The cyclists could also enjoy a relaxing massage in our conference room.
Cyclassics is always a very special event for our sporting aces, as our colleagues start training together weeks in advance. They work closely together and keep fit. And their preparation paid off: this year, our Mares cycling professionals completing the 100 km route were able to record a best time of under 3 hours.
We are proud of all our sporting colleagues and would particularly like to thank our newcomers for taking part in this year’s Vattenfall Cyclassics. Next year, we will of course be back on our bikes.
